You Need a Version of Word
When I ordered my computer by phone, I specifically requested that it have Microsoft Word. It was included for the price of 24 bucks. It was not a bad investment. I use this program all of the time. I never use Microsoft Works (which was included for free). I knew I had to have SOME version of Word on my computer, since so many documents online are in Word format.

I managed to write a book using this thing. (Maybe one day I'll get it published.) There were only a few problems I ran into while undertaking the project.

Headers and footers - If you have specific things you want on specific headers and footers, your options are limited. I wanted a different header and footer for each page (even though that might sound stupid) and I wasn't able to figure out how to get this idea to work. The best I could do was get a different header and footer for even and odd pages, and the first page of the document.

Page numbers - This is kind of related to headers and footers. I wasn't allowed to decide what I wanted page one to be and how many page one's I wanted. I had to create new documents if I wanted multiple page numberings. I couldn't even decide where I wanted the page numbering to stop.

Word distribution - To make my literary submission look more professional, I tried the word distribution option to align the text on both ends. My gosh, did it look ugly. There was no way I could get it to work, so I just aligned it on the left end.

Template changes - It seems like about 7% of the time I close the program it asks me if I want to save the template change. I wasn't aware I changed any template. I have to click the no option several times to make the program finally close.

Despite these problems, there were some things I was rather pleased with.

Picture insertion - This feature worked perfectly. I could insert pictures of any size and they would be automatically scaled to fit the page. If I didn't like the size and wanted to make it smaller, I could do that too without it distorting the picture in any way. I think the only way you could have a problem with this feature is if you're trying to print a picture and make it big enough to cover several pages.

Pasting text - I never had a problem pasting text from an internet source, and formatting it to match the rest of the page.

Spellcheck - It makes life easy, especially the auto-correct feature. I don't always agree with the grammar check's suggestions though, even if I'm in the wrong for it.

Although I listed quite a few problems, I view these as minor. I don't consider different headers and footers to be all that essential. This is a good and necessary program that fulfills its purpose, and I use it a lot. In addition to that, I must say that this program contains what seems to be hundreds of fonts that I'll never use. I just wish that I could use the equation editor feature without paying extra.

Great PowerPoint Viewer
This software is great for someone who isnt trying to spend a lot of money. The software has a great power point viewer. So if ur in school and ur professors or teachers have powerpoint presentations, u can view them with this software. It has a dictionary and thesarus and spreadsheets. Great for the price.


Easy to install, easy to use.
This will save you a ton of money if you are getting Office 2007. You can install this and then get the Office 2007 upgrade for a very cheap price. I highly recommend it.


Installed smoothly. Works great.
All I really wanted was the word processor in Works. I have had MS Word on other computers and it is great, but this version included with Works-8 does everything I want to do.

I have enjoyed this product. It was easy to install. I was able to complete all of the end of the year paper work at home that I could not have gotten done at school. Also, I have been able to creat letters, flyers, trading cards, and an outstanding newsletter.

Make sure it was in your box!
I ordered a Gateway computer last October, and decided to install some updates this August. The updater asked for the disc and to my surprise, it wasn't with the software Gateway included with my system. I thought it was the 'Applications Disc', but it wasn't. I contacted Gateway and they informed me that they could have only provided it to me if I had notified them within 30-90 days of receiving my system. Therefore, I have to buy it all over again, especially since my version of Word won't work because I started to install the update without the disc! Just a warning to everyone, make sure you have everything you're supposed to have right away. I'd even take your Gateway computer to a Gateway store and have them verify that everything is included. Or just don't buy from them at all.So besides not working if you don't have the disc, This Suite is pretty decent, I really like the Streets application (but it doesn't work if you don't have the disc)

One chestnut that won't go away is the image of the feverish screenwriter, hunched over a word processor, ideas flying so thick and fast that the chore of punctuation would invite creative disaster. The only keys a writer needs to move between script elements in this program are TAB, ENTER, and (. Since scripts have a logic and order that's fairly standardized, the program can intuit what's next, placing time of day after scene headings or formatting for dialogue or a parenthetical after a character's name. This is a less-complicated program than some of the more expensive screenwriting programs out there, but it doesn't do as much as those other offerings either.

Hollywood Screenwriter is designed for writing spec scripts: speculative screenplays designed to get the attention of stage or screen producers. Unless you're producing a blockbuster, this is what you need!
This program is great. The process of writing a screenplay was sped up by the drop down devices employed by this software. It's really easy to use and upload. Yes, you have to leave the disc in your drive in order to use it, but who cares? If all you want is a script that will print onto plain white paper (spell check included), you've found what you need at a very low cost. I was tempted to pay over 0 for the other programs, but decided to stick with this one. All I wanted was a script, and that's what I got from this software. 5 stars!!!!


Well worth the price.
Although it doesn't come with much of a manual, it will get my screenplay "down on paper". No software will make me a better writer but, if you just need something to do the formatting as you write, this is it. You can learn how to use it in about 10 minutes, and it doesn't cost a bundle.

Who thought WordPerfect would make a comeback!?
Easy to install and easy to use! I haven't used all its applications yet; however, it is easy to navigate and figure out. No problems so far - recommened!


Well put together product package
One of the few alternatives to the Microsoft office package, Word Perfect has been around for so many years but lost on its overall marketplace. While Office 7 came out in all its complexity, Wordperfect has taken a different approach: simplicity and ease of use. The whole package is exceedingly well done, and while this review will be brief, I will focus on the highlights and pitfalls of the package.

The exceedingly simple installation is fantastic. Less than a gig of space is needed, 256 megs of ram, and even the most minimalist processor from this millenium will run this. For those of us multitasking in their work, that is huge. Wordperfect, one of the finest word processors, becomes even more powerful and adaptive. PDF conversions, 60 different type of file conversions , a great thesaurus and dictionary, plus the ability to redact on the spot (great for legal work) makes this a great word processor. The revamped Quattro Pro feels as beefed up as excel, but a lack of familiarity with its quirks make it a little bit more difficult. Thankfully is it compatible with excel. Mail is a nice new addition that once you set up suffices as an outlook replacement. But the 200 megs of online storage is a huge addition! And the price? Can't ask for much better!

Yet there are some negatives. Lightning, which is supposed to bring the Wordperfect suite to the web, feels archaic and an older model, thrown in at the end. Mail does not import your Gmail and I found it reliant on some outlook databases (which I do not use). The calendar didn't translate over as well! I didn't find Quattro too easy to use, despite it's relative simplicity.

Despite the negatives, this is a viable alternative to Office 2007 and can work alongside it. If you desire something easy to use, easy to run, and easily morphing to what your workplace desires, then don't look much further!


The Best Continues to Get Better
I have been a WordPerfect user for many years. Although I am comfortable with Microsoft Office applications, I find that WordPerfect Office products to be much more powerful and easy to use. I consider it to be the "gold standard." It is fully compatible with Microsoft applications, but is easier to use, with a far greater array of supporting features.

Office X4 enables the user to create high-level, professional-quality documents and presentations. There is complete and easy integration of older formats as well as countless other older products, enabling the user to easily refine existing documents without the loss of key formatting, as well as creating new documents.

Both the Amazon site and Corel's on product pages offer the standard descriptions, so I will focus on what I find to be most useful - based on my extensive use of the package.

WordPerfect X4: To me, the "Reveal Codes" feature is my favorite. I can create, format, revise and refine documents much more quickly and easily than in Microsoft Word. In addition, the ability to create, revise, edit and export PDFs to/from WPX4 is most efficient.

QuattroProX4: Although I do not use the spreadsheet program as much as the others, it is easy to use and the integration into other documents is quite seamless.

Presentations X4: I find it a better tool than PowerPoint to create presentations. The "Show on the Go" feature allows you to use all PCs, even those that do not have Presentations installed. Conversion of Power Point is easy and I have not experienced any loss of formatting.

The Utilities: The supporting utilities, including document templates and conversion features, enable me to convert documents quickly to and from other formats, either individually or in folder groups.

SUMMARY: I guess that I am a long-time fan, but for me the greatest value is in having a more powerful suite of programs that can help me create, develop, and easily use macros, templates, etc. and work with both the Corel programs and the MS Office applications.


I'll freely admit . . .
. . . I'm one of those few persons who actually prefer WordPerfect to Microsoft Word. When I first entered the working world, I learned how to use the DOS based version of WordPerfect, and the software served me well through graduate school and a Master's Thesis. As recently as 8 years ago, I was still using it in an office setting where, honestly, it worked better with the particular system we were using. And I've consistently continued to use it in my fairly extensive personal writing at home. Why? Because, while I've found WordPerfect slightly less "user friendly" than Word, for the type of writing that I have done and continue to do, I've found that the program can do more.

This version is every bit as good and as previous versions I've used (and better than some). I've been very pleased. I was also pleased at the ease of compatibility I've found when working on documents created in other formats -- something WordPerfect has not always been great about.

While I'll admit that my primary reason for selecting this product was for the word processing, I want to say a brief word about the QuattroPro spreadsheet. While Excel is far and away the most widely used spreadsheet today, I (and many others) cut my teeth on Lotus 1-2-3. This version of QuattroPro allows the user to utilize not only its own format, but also 1-2-3 as well as Excel. For dealing with older documents (or for persons more familiar with earlier programs) this is a great feature.

I highly recommend this product.


Word Perfect Office X4
WordPerfect Office 4X Standard

This is a fully functional Office package that rivals and in some cases surpasses MS Office. Each of the programs load more quickly then it's MS Office counterparts do on the same PC. It installs in less time then MS Office and you are asked less questions during the install.

It can open almost any file including PDF's but with the documents originally created in MS Office it makes slight format changes and in some cases changes the font style.

I have used other editions of Word Perfect nice the time that Novell owned it and I have always liked the functionality of each edition and this is no different in fact in some areas it surpassed my high expectations. I just with it was a little more interoperable with MS Office. It does work fairly well with Open Office that I have installed on my MAC but the formatting changes somewhat here too.

One of the nice features is the ability to preview a document without having to open it, it's a real time saver for me. The edition of a fully functional mail program is nice.

The graphics selection is great and inserting and resizing graphics has become easier.

It's great as a stand alone processor or in a network environment where only Word Perfect is used but unfortunately won't work that well in an environment dominated by MS Office. Still it's my preferred home processor by far. It's easy to use, fairly intuitive and you can turn out some really professional looking documentation with little effort.
